DIY

DIY is the way I prefer to do almost everything in life. We don’t have a lot of extra money to pay people to do things we can easily do ourselves. Plus, I get a huge amount of satisfaction from cooking, making, baking and doing. I prefer to see my hard work rewarded! Growing up in an Amish community, I have had a lot of practice with making things from scratch! It’s a way of life for my family and I.

I DIY body and cleaning products because I strive to have a chemical-free home and to only expose my husband and kids to things that are healthy for them. Nothing toxic! When you have strict rules like no toxins in your home, you have to learn to do-it-yourself when it comes to bath and cleaning products.

Our family has food allergies, so we eat gluten-free. But I DIY my baking mix because gluten-free mix is expensive!

Lastly, we are DIY-ing our own mobile home right now! Re-doing a mobile home from scratch is hard work but it feels so good!

January 11, 2019 By Elise New 87 Comments This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure policy for more info.

Two years ago, we bought an old, ramshackle mobile home, and it was both one of the worst, and one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. Repairing a mobile home isn’t as easy as it may seem at first glance - they’re not like stick-built houses. Mobile homes have their own standards of measurement Keep Reading

I love homemade gifts - both giving and receiving. The work and thought that goes into them! The Quality! The uniqueness! …But I’m not very good at making them. Quilting table runnings? Knitting sweaters? Sewing of any kind? Those kind of homemade gifts aren’t really my strongest skill. But I Keep Reading

digging pit with a backhoe

One of the things I’ve been asked about the most during our mobile home remodel is, what about the septic system? That’s a toughie. Gabe has always been fascinated with composting toilets ever since I've known him, so I (after much deliberation) conceded that this might be the time to give them a Keep Reading
