These homemade makeup remover wipes will leave your face feel fresh and clean!

It’s nice to have makeup that will stay on all day, but when you’re ready to take it off, you want it off. All of it.

I don’t wear a lot of makeup in my every day life – in fact, you’ll be lucky to find me in full face more than once a week, but what I have learned the hard way is that sleeping in makeup makes my face break out, and my eyes itchy.

Mild soap and water helps wash off the foundation, but eye makeup is a little more tricky – particularly eyeliner and mascara. They just kind of want to smear all over the place.

That said, I’m not about to go pay through the nose for dedicated makeup remover wipes – especially since, to be honest, I’m not thrilled with the chemicals my skin soaks up when I use them.

But you don’t need to pay through the nose for chemical-filled wipes – not when you have these homemade makeup remover wipes!

At first glance, you may be horrified to see oil in this recipe – but hear me out! You’ll find that oil is a key ingredient in pretty much every makeup remover recipe. Why? Because soap alone doesn’t do a very good job of convincing mascara smudges to leave your eyelids.

Oil, on the other hand, wipes them right off, and because we’re using coconut oil, it nourishes your skin right along with cleansing.

I’m a really big fan of using liquid (fractionated) coconut oil, which has had the solid fatty acids removed through a cold expeller process so that it stays liquid at room temperature.

This means that even on cold days, your makeup remover wipes, stay soft.

As for the soap used in this recipe, I highly recommend making a batch of homemade liquid soap from unscented soap, or soap scented with a mild essential oil like frankincense. Another great option is Dr. Bonner’s Liquid castsile soap.
