Sweet, tender, apple studded scones topped with cinnamon sugar, and a maple glaze.

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour, or gluten free flour mix
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons butter, cold, sliced into 1/4 inch “pats”
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup apples, peeled, cored, and chopped itno 1/2 inch pieces

  • 1 Tablespoon heavy cream
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1 Tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 Tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  1. Preheat oven to 350º
  2. Place flour, baking powder, salt, sugar in a food processor, and pulse to blend
  3. Add butter, and pulse until mixture resembled graham cracker crumbs
  4. Transfer to a mixing bowl and add egg and milk
  5. Stir until just combined
  6. Add apples and stir until mixture forms a ball
  7. Roll out on a lightly floured surface in a circle about 1 inch thick
  8. Cut into eight wedges (think of it as cutting a pie)
  9. Move wedges to a large baking sheet
  10. In a small bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg from the topping ingredients
  11. Brush scones with cream, then sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar
  12. Bake in preheated oven for 18 minutes, until golden brown
  13. Remove from oven and let cool
  14. While scones are cooling, combine icing ingredients. You may need to add a bit more powdered sugar, or a drop or two of water to reach a “stiffly pourable” consisitency
  15. Drizzle icing over scones
  16. Enjoy!
