Homemade Itch Stick Recipe
Raise your hand if you get as annoyed as I do about all the itches that come with summer.
I’m happy to say that I haven’t encountered any poison ivy (yet) this summer, but the state bird of Texas is the mosquito, if that tells you anything. 😛
Homemade “On The Go” Itch Relief
A few years ago, I started getting poison ivy a lot, thanks to my ivy-loving goats (they ate it like candy!), and I found the best way to deal with that was homemade itch relief spray.
However, I’ve learned something interesting about bug bites and some other itches; they don’t itch much when they aren’t exposed to air. My theory is that it’s the air moving over them when you move that causes a little bit of irritation.
I should probably look that up, but for now, I’m going to go with it because this theory was the catalyst for making this homemade itch stick.
See, like the spray, it contains antibacterial oils to help support the skin against irritations, but unlike the spray, it also contains shea butter and beeswax, which, when rubbed on your skin, seal out the air and thus, the irritation.
This homemade itch stick has been a lifesaver for the kids’ random itches, to the point that my hollering, “Don’t take your shirt off out there, there’s mosquitos all over the place!” has started to fall on deaf ears.
I don’t know why they insist on nudism, but there it is. The heathens.
How to Make Your Own Homemade Itch Stick for Bug Bites
You’ll probably notice that this itch stick is basically homemade lip balm but with a few essential oils that you probably wouldn’t want to have to taste. That’s the beauty of homemade skin care products, so many of the same core ingredients can be used to make a huge variety of remedies!

I will have to show this to my daughter. She hates having itchy spots.
How many sticks does this make?
2-3 depending on the tube size.
I made 6 singular batches and it made 10 chaptick size tubes
Do I use 5-10 drops of each oil or 5-10 drops total?
Thanks,
Where can I buy lip balm tubes?
You can find lip balm tubes on Amazon.
5-10 drop of each oil or total? If total, what do you recommend?
It seems to me to be 5 – 10 drops of each.

The recipe is great. Thank you! The ads on your blog are so distracting and take away from the quality of your cite in my opinion.
Hi. Is there something else I can use instead of tea tree? My daughter and I are allergic.
Your print button isn’t working.
This recipe looks great! I just moved to Costa Rica and have about 50 bites and am very itchy. I’m going to go find the ingredients today!! Thank you!
Is it 5-10 drops total or of each essential oil listed? Thanks!
That’s total combined.
How long does it last? Does it spoils or get an bad smell?
I’ve made this recently. Works for itch and also for wounds, although you’d want to avoid using it on large ones due to the cooking nature of the peppermint oil.

Can you put it in a tin can or glass container?
I NEED to make these for the kids!
Love this recipe. Used it for years for my granddaughter when she gets bug bites or minor skin irritations. I use it when I get a minor cut. I would never go back to anything else. 💚
